He specialises in driving innovation and performance improvement through practical, hands-on leadership. With a proven track record at Valterra Platinum (previously known as Anglo American Platinum) — where he held senior roles in operations, business improvement, and operating model design — Bert has led initiatives that delivered substantial gains in production and profitability. His strengths span Lean Six Sigma, operational finance, and program delivery, backed by an MBA and a Six Sigma Black Belt. Today, he connects organisations to the right expertise through Waymaker—helping teams fix what’s stuck, execute faster, and achieve results that last.

Carel Terhoeven

Carel Terhoeven is a highly experienced Chartered Accountant and CFO Advisor with over 40 years of expertise in auditing, financial management, and strategic business consulting. A registered auditor with IRBA, a member of SAICA, and a registered tax practitioner with SARS, he combines deep technical competence with a practical, business-focused approach to client advisory.

Carel began his career with Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) in 1982 and was admitted as a partner in 1991. During his time at EY, he led the national roll-out of the firm’s outsourced internal audit services and presented various courses for the Institute of Internal Auditors of South Africa. As an audit partner, he was responsible for major accounts including ABSA Card Division, Amcoal Collieries (multiple mines), Grinaker Construction, and local authorities such as Akasia and Warmbaths.

In 1997, Carel established CF Terhoeven Incorporated, a chartered accountancy firm focused on assurance and advisory services. The firm later merged into JTC Chartered Accountants (SA) Incorporated, where Carel remained until 2021. In 2022, he launched Trica Financial Solutions (Pty) Ltd, providing outsourced CFO and financial management services to private companies.

Carel’s industry experience spans mining, construction, financial services, manufacturing, local authorities, healthcare, engineering, professional services, agriculture, retail, investment holdings, and NPOs. He has advised and audited a wide client base, including Intercare Group, Mintek, SAMIC, Stocks & Stocks, DLV Engineering, Rolin Manufacturing, and Grinaker Manufacturing.

His core capabilities include business structuring, tax optimisation, valuations, due diligence, compliance with the Companies Act, performance management, and internal control design. As a CFO advisor, he supports SMEs in setting product pricing, improving profitability, managing costs, designing cost control systems, and optimising budgets and cash flow.

Carel has served on the audit committees of major institutions including Stocks & Stocks, Mintek, the UIF and Compensation Fund, and has held board roles such as Chair of Campus Crusade for Christ SA. His long-standing track record and diverse industry exposure enable him to deliver strategic insights that drive financial health, operational efficiency, and sustainable business growth.

Frik Fourie is a highly experienced mining professional with over 35 years in the industry, having held senior leadership roles across Africa within Anglo Gold. His career has focused on creating safer, more integrated, and efficient mining systems, with expertise spanning operational improvement, strategic planning, and the implementation of new mining technologies. Notably, Frik has led complex projects that modernised operations and enhanced productivity, including expanding and establishing new mines in Namibia, DRC, Tanzania, Ghana, and Guinea. 

 Throughout his career, Frik has driven transformative changes in mining practices. As General Manager, he achieved significant productivity gains and operational advancements by overseeing projects such as the rapid development of Anglo’s Tshepong mine shaft. Additionally, he led large-scale organisational initiatives at Anglo Platinum, including digital planning and HR optimisation, which streamlined operations and supported employee performance. His leadership extended to the role of Head of New Mining Technologies, where he and his team implemented innovative solutions like autonomous trucks, hard rock cutting technologies, and electric vehicles, making impactful changes in the mining sector. 

 Frik’s approach to mining is both strategic and forward-thinking, focusing on long-term sustainability and safety. His extensive qualifications and commitment to operational excellence make him a respected leader and visionary in the mining industry, continually pushing boundaries to enhance efficiency and unlock new potential in mining operations.
