Turning Shift Changes into Shared Wins — one smooth handover at a time.
⚠️ Operational analysis revealed a consistent blind spot: productivity was being lost at both ends of the shift — during the last hour of the outgoing shift and the first hour of the incoming one.
⚠️ Outgoing crews were tapering off early to clock out on time. Incoming crews were slow to ramp up, often having to offload trucks or re-activate equipment, resulting in valuable production time lost with every changeover.
⚠️ The result? Thousands of tonnes missed each week, and frustration on all sides.
🧭 We launched 100-day “Relay Champs” projects with Load & Haul and Drilling crews. The mission: turn the shift change into a shared performance window, not a productivity dip. We focused on cross-shift collaboration — optimising not just how a shift ends, but how it sets the next one up to succeed.
👥 Success didn’t come from the mining team alone — we assembled a cross-functional project team including Operations, Finance, HR, IT, BI, Engineering, and OEM partners — each bringing expertise to drive execution.

⚠️ Across multiple haul truck fleets in an open-pit operation, inconsistent payloads were silently eroding performance.
⚠️ Overloaded trucks triggered crawling, increased fuel consumption, and added mechanical strain. Underloaded trucks, meanwhile, meant missed production targets and underutilised capacity.
⚠️ The real issue? Operators were flying blind — real-time feedback was poor or nonexistent, and payload systems weren’t properly integrated.

This wasn’t a systems upgrade or a training course — it was a full-scale, on-the-ground improvement effort. We worked side-by-side with shovel operators, dispatch, engineering, and OEM partners to fix the disconnect between measurement, feedback, and execution.
